Wednesday Work Blogs are designed to help us maneuver out of the weeds of our emotions and see that Friday’s coming!
He said, “Let’s go for a walk.” He wanted to practice riding his bike. I said, “Okay!” and put down my work (my laptop) and then I thought about it. Right here is where I want to tell you that giving me an idea is like, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie. Remember that book? I went inside with good intentions. I went to put on my walking shoes but instead…I came out with another idea! Wanting to make a Wednesday feel like a Friday, I went with it!
Why don’t we go skating? I think we’re ready to try skating on the road again (instead of just inside!). We tried it once before but the bumpy road made me nervous, and we decided to practice inside for a while. He said, “Okay!” We put on our protective gear and skates and headed out the front door. We got onto the road and I got scared…needed more inside practice… so I said, “We still need a little more inside practice.” He said, “Okay.” and inside we went.
In three rooms we moved furniture out of our way so we could skate without any hindrance. That’s hard to do when wearing skates! We skated a bit and then watched a YouTube video to learn how to stop faster. We finally had enough and I said, “I’m going to vacuum. I saw some dust bunnies!” He began playing his game with brother.
As I was vacuuming, I thought it was a good time to get the attachments and learn how to work my new vacuum. After I engaged my son’s help I finally managed to vacuum the base boards too. While I was vacuuming I thought to move a little furniture around. After moving furniture around it was time to declutter and put Legos, marble runs etc. back in their spots.
Then it hit me, “I’m like that book, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie!” I finally finished my cleaning spree with sweeping the front porch and went back in to my office to continue the book work I was originally doing. Then I thought, “I should blog about what just happened. Annnnnd here I am. About to post this and then I’ll get back to what I was doing before the idea to go for a walk.
ADD, ADHD, or simply seizing the moments and doing things one step at a time. Anyone relate?
The reality is that, now, everyone has gone to bed, and I can continue on with my work. I’ve spent time with loved ones and cleaned a little, written a blog, and now I can get back to work. My Wednesday “work” of trying to reach Friday feelings was a success today and Friday is around the corner people! And after all is said and done, I’m really hoping this gets posted on Wednesday and not Thursday! 😉
Do you ever feel like this? Tell me I’m not the only one!
