Here we go ’round in circles! As Christians we’re not to feel overwhelmed. God has it; right? We get caught chasing our tails like everyone else. Ever feel like that? You chase all day long and get nowhere? Feels kind of like Hump-Days! You get through your list only to find it’s not dwindled but grown and coming back around for you. ‘Round and ’round in circles we go. It can get overwhelming!
Are you a student with deadlines and home-work? Are you a home-school mom with one, two, three or more kiddos? Are you taking care of your family and aging parents as well? Are you juggling a career, family, pressures from home and work…not to mention friendships? The scenarios are endless. And when you’re in the midst of this chasing your tail scenario, there’s always something we feel we lack. Something we’re striving for. This only adds to the disillusionment. Going ’round and ’round in circles makes one dizzy!
Men tap out too. They have the pressures of providing for the family’s needs/wants, and they’re expected to have Superman capabilities too. They’re supposed to give to work, give to wife, give to kids. They have their own honey-do-list that seems to grow every day. All this and they mustn’t neglect the yard work, garage, house repairs, and cars. Heaven forbid he neglects giving the wife special attention. If he’s a father he’s expected to do all this and be the world’s greatest dad. The kids desire it and so does the wife. ‘Round and ’round in circles we go!
It’s supposed to get easier as you get older, right??? You check your priorities to ensure you’re on track. And of course you do this checking while in the midst of clicking through your list! You pray as you move along asking the Lord to sustain you as you go. A bit shaky in mind and soul you keep at the grindstone. Is this the way to live? Were we called to this kind of living? Want off this merry-go-round?
Here’s where the enemy comes with his whispers. Don’t listen!!! We’re not to see as the world sees. We have God’s perspective from which to see and draw strength. Pause, breathe and pray. Ask God for his wisdom. Ask him to show you the areas in which he’s called you to shine for him. Then as you continue in him ask for confirmation. Evaluate why you’re overwhelmed, tweak things you can tweak and keep your eyes on him! Don’t look at your surroundings and/or to the immediate return on investment. It may be that the return is delayed because it’s not for you but for future generations.
Go forward with your eyes on him. Don’t get distracted. Don’t be dismayed he will strengthen you. Mind that you’re striving at the things he’s called you to, the way he wants you to and then remain in him. He will establish you. Be faithful where he’s called you, where he has you, and leave the results to him! Look to him in and through it all. And remember that the elusive tail you’re chasing may not be for the catching! The chase may be all about the process and how you’re meant to shine for him in all things!
Within the chase, remember Proverbs 3:5-6 and forget about catching that tail. And like Hump-Day Wednesdays, remember…Friday is a-comin’! Most importantly, Christ is coming back too!
