If laughter is good for you, why is it so hard for some people to laugh? Is it the punchline or the delivery method? Are we even looking for the punchline in situations? Does it have to do with callings, personalities, love languages or all the above? I’m sure some of you are thinking yes or at least that some of that is true. Yet, the scriptures speak to a joyful heart being good for you. It does not say that laughter is good for some people. No it says, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” And it says that for the happy heart, life is a continual feast. It does not say, to some happy hearts. It says that for the happy heart, life is a continual feast.
So why is it harder for some to laugh than others? Do we need to lighten up and laugh more? It’s worth mentioning that not all that seeks to draw out laughter is the same. Some think adding curse words and using tacky humor is more relatable. Yet, I agree with Red Skelton. He was reported saying, “When you curse and put out inappropriate material it’s like putting poison in the medicine.” I couldn’t agree more! We don’t want that! We want good, clean humor. And that’s all around us. We just have to look for it!
Michael Junior @ michaeljrcomedy is one who looks for the punchline in every situation. He challenges us to do the same and to even be the punchline! Sometimes God calls you to be the medicine for others. How can that happen if you’re not looking for the opportunities? He’ll reveal how you can induce a merry heart in others.
When we see our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face, we’ll have a new perspective of things on this earth. I’m sure we’ll say in that day, “Lord if I had only known!” Yet, he tells us that we can know but that requires spending time with him. May I suggest that our lack of spending time with him may be the reason we lack joy filled hearts?
