Ever feel like your endeavors are like bringing like poles together with magnets? Feeling a little out of your element? Let’s learn a lesson from magnets!
Magnets have a powerful force of attracting opposites. As powerful of a reaction is the like poles of magnets repelling each other. Opposites attract while the like poles repel each other. Try with all your might to make those same magnet ends come together but it’s not going to happen! Does this Hump Day find you feeling like the same end of magnets trying to come together?
I must be honest here. I chose the self publishing world so my books will stay in print as long as the Lord should tarry. And when you choose that path you take on the duties that the publisher would typically do. The Lord has blessed me with a family (that he’s gifted) to come alongside me and do a lot of the other publishing work. However, there’s still a lot of the other work that I must see to. And that’s when I feel like I’m the like poles on magnets being forced together. I’ve never liked the feeling of the two like poles on magnets repelling each other. It reminds me of the struggles and strivings I feel when in areas that don’t come naturally to me.
We’ve all been in scenarios that cause us to feel like that. The magnet example should serve as a reminder to us. It should remind us where our personal strengths and weaknesses are. We should shine in our strengths. That’s what we were created to do! And this scenario can also be a clue to what our gifts and callings from God may be.
Yesterday morning my daughter-in-love came into my office. I asked her a question about something I was doing. She pointed to the answer that was right in front of my face. Then she made the motion with her hands of holding the like poles of magnets together and said, “Magnets”. We both laughed. Then we discussed how we should get magnets and hang them above my desk. Now that’s a great idea. When they’re together everyone will know that I’m shining in my strengths. When they’re apart, they’ll know to pray for me. So, I guess I’m shopping for magnets! Add that to my list.
Are you struggling along trying to get back to the things you do best? The good news is that we all have those like pole times, days, weeks and seasons. But here’s the good news, we can grow in those times, we can learn amazing things through them and God refines us in them.
So, if you look forward to your Fridays so you can unwind and stop forcing like poles together. Remember that you’re called to grown through those times. Allow God to refine you and you’ll come out the other side looking more like Christ and reflecting the Father’s image!
Don’t fret though… Friday is a comin’ but most importantly, Christ is coming back too!
