This Wednesday Work Blog I want to talk about a working house. My house is such a house. I love my house but honestly, my house has always been low on my priority list. Many other things continue to inch it down my list… which is why I affectionately refer to it as a working house.
My family is a blessing from God and is top priority to me and my husband. We eventually began the homeschool journey. And believe me when I say, homeschooling is a lifestyle. And that lifestyle pushes the priority of the house further down the list. Not to mention the one income family that pushes it down too. Would I change anything? No way! We loved everything about homeschooling and are thankful for the opportunity.
Seasons come and seasons go and I no longer homeschool my kiddos. But in the last season of home schooling my family and I began an independent Christian film studio. And I wrote, directed and produced a feature film. After that, we tackled writing, directing and producing a proof of concept, which is like a pilot.
Then we began another film production studio. We film events, business promos and music videos. We continued learning about the Christian film world too. Then my oldest son married and they were expecting their first. I asked the Lord if he wanted me to write children’s books, telling him I would if he wanted me to. The next morning I woke with a story on my heart and I told him I’d write it. That was six books ago with many more to come!
To produce more books and audio books our single income family needed more than one income. In God’s sovereignty he led me to a toy store. What a joy it was to work in a specialty toy store where everyone is happy to be there! I loved it!!! But it’s wasn’t enough money for my entrepreneurial adventures. Hence I entered into the real estate world. Real estate is very similar to a toy store. I simply help people find the perfect house rather that the perfect present! And I do just that while keeping up with my passion for writing.
Everything I do is centered on my love and passion for God and family. Hence why I call my house a working house! My house is not a showpiece. Would I like for it to be? Of course! But it’s not possible. So I take it a day at a time and clean and change when and where the priorities shift.
The daily struggle is real though… especially when I visit a dear friend in her showcase house! Yet the battle has been won because the most important thing is love and for my family to feel God’s love. And for my friends to feel God’s love, in my house and for anyone who visits to feel God’s love, in my house.
So if you come to my home you’ll come to a working house. Please don’t come with eyes to inspect the structure or the beauty of the house itself. If you do you will be disappointed. But if you come to see me and to sit and chat for a while you’ll feel welcomed. If you do come and you find that you feel like you’re at home… well then my house has achieved all the goals I had for it.
You see my house will pass away and be forgotten. But the people who have lived in it, loved in it and visited in it… they are what matters the most. Live your life well and focus on the important things and let the perishable things fall away from you!
On this Hump-Day Wednesday remember the second law of thermodynamics. Everything is always breaking down. And let’s focus on what matters most, God and family.
Remember Friday is always acomin’ but most … Christ is coming back too!
