When something comes up to interrupt your day or activity people tend to say, “Just roll with it”. Well, let’s change that terminology to “Just roll with him!” This Hump-Day Wednesday I want to discuss our plans verses God’s plans. The heart of a man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps (Proverbs 16:9). This is true and remains true for life! Things can so easily derail your plans. Some things you can stop and some you can’t.
At one point I had the thought to start a journal for all the little interruptions that came my way. As I contemplated it I noticed them… some were household repairs, car issues, things to plan, money issue, various crisis, etc.
These interruptions happened more than I had realized. And I decided to focus on God and his activity rather than the interruptions.
In a sense, I was relieved to see there were tangible things that derailed my plans and to caused me to feel more stressed. But I knew I didn’t need to focus on how many or how often they occurred. That could be overwhelming. But there would be a good side to it… seeing through time how the Lord gets you through them. That would be victorious reflections! But the intermittent logging of them in a journal felt to be a Debbie-Downer. Therefore, I chose not to keep the journal.
Yet, having gone through that thought contemplation. I became acutely aware of them anyway… though not in a bad way. I quickly learned of their frequency. This caused me to space myself in order to adjust. It also caused me to lift my eyes to God on a daily and moment by moment basis… and to ask God for his help and wisdom to navigate through life. Let’s face it y’all, on this side of heaven, life’s hard. We need him every second of the day!
We need to seek him daily, and ask him what he wants to teach us. He will always meet us there. Then our responsibility is not to roll with it but to roll with him! This requires a letting go and looking to him. It requires open hands, eyes and heart. It requires a surrendered life. It requires seeking him daily to fill and renew, Proverbs 3:5-6.
On this Hump-Day Wednesday remember that Friday is always acomin’ but most importantly… Christ is coming back too!
