This Hump-Day Wednesday I’m thinking about the correlation between our being birthed here on earth and our birth into eternity. There’s a fascinating connection. I touch on several points in my first two Discussion Book Series books, Don’t Forget Me, and Dying Is Part of This World.
- Don’t Forget Me, depicts a conversation with Baby and God in the womb. We follow that conversation through the delivery of baby and the meeting of the parents.
- Dying Is Part of This World, correlates the stages of the womb and the birth into our earthly home with the stages of our earthly life and the birth into our eternal home.
But the other day another fascinating thought hit me and I share it now on this Wednesday Work Blog.
The miracle of birth is fascinating to me. As God is knits the baby in the womb, he/she goes through many stages. The entire time the baby lives/exists in the womb. This is a place known only to babies, the place created by God for babies to inhabit.
We cannot exist on the moon without the proper life support systems in place. Likewise, a baby cannot exist outside the womb without developing the proper life support system. The womb is the designated space to developed that. Once baby is birthed to his/her new home, he/she is alerted to life in their new home. He/she takes oxygen into the lungs as crying begins which is also good for the lungs.
Their new home was before unbeknownst to them. Immediately prior to birth the baby lives in fluid. And baby is attached to the life-giving-support of the mother. As their mother lives so do they. Her body supports and nourishes his/her very own life. Once birthed, the life support system is cut away. He/she now dwells in their new home. Life is very different but the baby is the same living being that was very much alive in the womb. Although the two are vastly different environments, the baby is the one and the same being.
The earthly stage of a baby morphs as the baby grows and no two lives look the same. They have been uniquely made with strengths, weaknesses, personalities, unique to them. As baby grows in the womb he/she is prepared for life on earth. And as the baby grows in life on earth he/she is preparing for eternal life. His/her life adapts and grows in numbers as family is created again and new lives are birthed.
In the same way a life in the womb is birthed into new life on earth… a life on earth is birthed into new life in eternity. The same life that lived in the womb lives on earth—though the living environments are worlds apart. The life that lives in both is the one and same being. And that same life that lives on earth, lives on in eternity—though the environments are worlds apart. The being that lives in both is one and the same being. He/she continues living past the different births. Our physicality and locations look vastly different at every stage of life. The essence of the living being is the same and continues into eternity.
From the perspective of the womb the baby cannot imagine his/her earthly life but it is nonetheless real. And from our earthly perspective one can’t imagine the previous life in the womb—as we experienced it. But it is nonetheless real. The same life that existed in the previous realm of the womb—now exists in the new and different realm of earthly living. It’s just another aspect of our living realities.
Likewise, from the perspective of the earthly life one cannot imagine our heavenly life—but it is nonetheless real. Our future eternal homes cannot be imagined to the fullest extent of beauty and glory that God is preparing for those who love him!
And this author believes that once we’re there, we’ll have the reality of knowing we were here on earth. But from that perspective, we’ll not be able to imagine it as we now experience it—but it is nonetheless real.
The same life that lives in the womb, lives on earth, and lives in eternity. God knits life in the womb and has had family on his heart, from the beginning of time. That’s precisely why his son died for us, so we can be family again… the family that was separated/divorced by sin. Christ paid the way and redeemed/adopted us to be God’s children once again. To live forever more with him! Let us praise his holy name!!!!
Dwell on these precious truths… knowing that God longs for you to live in eternity in his family. What a gracious Father we have. Call on his name if you know him not. He is there and will answer you.
These are good things to contemplate on this Hump-Day Wednesday. And remember Friday is acomin’ but most importantly Christ is coming back too!
